Lesson One – Number Changes

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to explain and model some of the methods that can be used to subtract different pairs of four digit numbers and ones using an informal written method of calculation.

Activities in this teaching pack include a differentiated set of worksheets to model and record how to subtract different pairs of three digit numbers and ones for support ability levels, four digit numbers and ones for core ability levels and five digit numbers and ones for extension ability levels.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to subtract different pairs of four digit numbers and ones using an informal written method.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to practise mental and written calculation strategies to subtract pairs of numbers with up to four digits including exchange between place value.
