Shape Identification

This maths scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to identify, describe and classify a range of 2D shapes by their matching properties including parallel lines and lines of symmetry. The class can create illustrations and models to show what makes a specific shape special and distinct from other shapes.

Shape Match
Identify, select and record different 2D shapes that match a range of properties including side perimeters, parallel lines and lines of symmetry

Shape Sort
Practise using Carroll Diagrams to identify and sort a range of different shapes by their matching individual properties including parallel lines and types of angles

Shape Labels
Select and record a range of different shapes by their matching properties including sides, corners, lines of symmetry and parallel lines.

Shape Pinboards
Explore how to identify, record and describe the geometric properties of examples of some different triangles, quadrilaterals and other polygons
-
Cities, Towns and Villages
Research and present the history of a range of different buildings and people that are part of the local community using a school exhibition
-
Recycling
Research and present some of the benefits and disadvantages that can be produced when recycling different materials at home and in school
-
Viking Pots
Develop and refine a range of different art and design techniques when working with clay to make pots that represent Viking culture and traditions
-
Bronze Age
Research and illustrate how life in Britain developed and changed during the Bronze Age including the growth of communities and trade
