This history scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to investigate how Britain developed and changed during the Iron Age by exploring how historians find out about the past using primary sources including archaeology. The class can compose news reports and diary entries to illustrate life in an Iron Age settlement.

Lesson Two : Iron Age Jobs
Identify and describe some of the different occupations and jobs that were performed by Iron Age Britons to complete different functions in society

Lesson Three : Hill Forts
Practise using maps to identify and select the best location for the construction of an Iron Age settlement in the past to support the community

Lesson Four : Iron Age Settlements
Investigate how to select and write a set of instructions explaining how to construct an Iron Age roundhouse in the past

Lesson Five : Festivals and Druids
Investigate, explain and illustrate how people in the Iron Age celebrated special festivals and worshipped different gods in the past

Lesson Six : Iron Age Warriors
Explore how to select, write and sequence a set of instructions about how to defeat the Roman invasion of Britain that occurred during the Iron Age
