Lesson Two – Rainforest Management

This geography teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to investigate and illustrate some of the different effects and impacts of farming and construction on a rainforest habitat in the world.
The class can practise composing a letter using persuasive writing to outline reasons for or against development in the rainforest to suggest why the habitat should be protected or developed for the future.

Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to identify how to construct and format a letter outlining reasons for or against development in the rainforest, a vocabulary word bank to compose a persuasive letter outlining if a rainforest should be protected and a template to compose a letter describing arguments for or against rainforest development.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore and illustrate some of the different effects of farming and construction on a rainforest habitat.
This lesson is part of a geography scheme of work to get the children to identify, illustrate and debate some of the different reasons as to how and why tropical rainforests should be protected and conserved for the future. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
