Confusing Word Pairs

This English scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to identify and model pairs of words that are commonly confused with each other in sentences to illustrate their different meanings. The class can compose example sentences to illustrate how the words can used to describe a range of classroom topics.

Advice or Advise
Select the correct words of advice or advise that are often confused with each other to write sentences about how to play a range of different sports and games

Device or Devise
Model how to use the pair of commonly confused words of device and devise to describe the functions of possible inventions that can complete different tasks and actions

Practice or Practise
Identify and describe a range of different skills and talents that someone could model using the words practice and practise which are often confused with other in writing

Maths Arithmetic Assessment
Assess abilities in solving arithmetic number problems for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division when working with informal and formal written calculations

Identify and describe some of the special landscapes and locations that can be found in the world and reflect on how they can be protected and preserved for the future

Explore and illustrate the meanings and spellings of some different words with silent letters when using them in a range of topics and scenarios
