Landscapes

This art and design scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to develop and practise different painting techniques when creating a landscape portraying a scene in the local area as part of the school neighbourhood. The class can mix colour shades showing colours that might be visible in the sky at sunrise or sunset.

Lesson One : Colour and Light
Explore and record how artists can use a range of special colour shades to suggest different times of the day that can be represented in paintings

Lesson Two : Tree Shadows
Practise selecting and adding some different shaped shadows to show how light can fall on objects that have been depicted and modelled in paintings

Lesson Three : Colour Swatches
Investigate and record how to select and mix a range of different colour shades to work with in a landscape painting depicting a specific time of the day

Lesson Four : Sunrise and Sunset
Practise selecting and mixing a range of colour shades that can be used to reflect some different times of the day in artwork of a landscape

Lesson Five : School Landscape
Practise creating a painting of the school’s landscape working with some special colour shades to reflect and depict a special time of the day

Lesson Six : Landscape Reviews
Investigate how to review and suggest improvements to landscape paintings in terms of the use of light and shadow that can be worked with to depict a special time of the day
