This science scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to identify, group and compare a variety of everyday materials used for a range of different functions on the basis of their physical properties. The class can name and describe some of the materials that might be used when building different parts of a house.

Identify and test some of the suitable materials that can be used to build the roof of a house to provide protection from the rain
