Unit B – Fraction Quarters

This maths scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to find and illustrate fractions that are quarters of shapes, quantities and numbers using concrete equipment and diagrams to model calculations and show equivalence to halves. The class can show how one half is an equivalent fraction to two quarters.

Find and illustrate fractions that are quarters of different shapes, quantities and numbers using concrete equipment and diagrams to model calculations and show equivalence to halves

Lesson One : Quarter Lengths

Investigate and model how to select and measure lengths to match one quarter of different measurements that have been recorded in whole centimetres

Lesson Two : Halves and Quarters

Identify and record the fraction equivalence between fractions for one half and two quarters using different shapes to model the equivalent sections

Lesson Three : Fraction Towers

Identify and record how to build different towers of cubes to illustrate the fraction equivalence that can be observed between one half and two quarters

Lesson Four : Fraction Steps

Practise counting forwards in steps of one half and one quarter using matching pictorial diagrams to record and illustrate the sets of matching fractions

Lesson Five : Three Quarters

Practise using concrete equipment and pictorial diagrams to illustrate how to calculate the fraction of three quarters of different numbers

  • Word Matching

    Word Matching

Identify, match and record the initial sounds that have been used in a range of cvc words beginning with different letters

  • Family Toys

    Family Toys

Investigate and record how a selection of different toys and games that were owned by families have changed and developed over time

  • Subtraction Digits

    Subtraction Digits

Model and illustrate how to subtract pairs of single digit numbers within ten using concrete equipment and diagrams to support the subtraction calculations

  • Family Experiences

    Family Experiences

Practise composing and presenting some example stories with familiar settings to illustrate things that might be experienced by a family
