Unit E – Addition Bonds and Sums

This maths scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to practise using mental and informal written calculations to add pairs of one and two digit numbers using concrete objects and diagrams to support calculations. The class can explain how to count on from the biggest numbers when completing sums.

Practise using different mental and informal written calculations to add pairs of one and two digit numbers using concrete objects and diagrams to support calculations

Lesson One : Number Facts

Practise using and working with concrete objects and pictorial diagrams to record addition facts about numbers to twenty using bar models

Lesson Two : Number Groups

Explore how to identify and record sets of numbers that make different sums to ten and twenty when working with cubes and pictures to model each of the calculations

Lesson Three : Number Pairs

Investigate how to identify and model some different matching addition calculations that can make a range of number sums within twenty

Lesson Four : Counting Money

Practise using counting on to add different pairs of two digit numbers and ones to identify and record sets of money coins to match each selected sum

Lesson Five : Numbers Match

Explain and model how use and illustrate related addition facts when adding different pairs of single digit numbers and multiples of ten

  • Twos, Threes and Fives

    Twos, Threes and Fives

Investigate some of the calculation techniques that can be used when solving problems by dividing numbers into equal groups of twos, threes and fives with no remainders

  • Robot Movements

    Robot Movements

Practise selecting and using the correct vocabulary words to describe and control the position and movements of a robot character around a grid or other locations

  • Transport Journeys

    Transport Journeys

Investigate the content structure of explanations that explain how and why families make different journeys by a range of forms of transport
