Lesson Two – Sea Dangers

This history teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify, describe and record some of the specific dangers and hazards that are associated with working and living by the sea.

The class can design and make posters outlining some of the dangers that ships and boats might face when out at sea during different weather conditions including large waves and strong wind.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe some of the different states of the sea, a set of cards and vocabulary word bank to identify and order a set of words that can be used to describe the sea and a template to record and describe some of the dangers and hazards to shipping from different sea states.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and record some of the dangers and hazards associated with working and living by the sea.

This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to investigate and record how life was different in the past from today by exploring the story of Grace Darling and the rescue of the Forfarshire. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
