Lesson Four – Wales and Cardiff

This geography teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify and describe how Wales is the same or different as other locations that comprise the United Kingdom.
The class can devise and produce a collage showing the map of Wales and listing some of the special activities that could be seen and experienced during a family visit.

Activities in this teaching pack include a set of display posters to identify and describe some of the special things that could be completed when visiting Cardiff as the capital of Wales and a template to produce a collage showing some of the special geographical features of Wales.
The interactive presentation gets the children to identify the location of the country of Wales on a map and its capital city of Cardiff and suggest what makes the location special and distinct from other locations in the UK.
This lesson is part of a geography scheme of work to get the children to Identify the name and location of the four main countries in the UK and describe their matching capital cities and investigate the seas that surround each country. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
