Forest Life

This English teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to select and use descriptive language to edit and change a poem describing some of the things that can be seen and experienced in a forest location.
The class can identify and produce lists of synonyms for different adjectives that can be used to describe nouns connected to life in a forest such as bluebells and deer.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe some of the different objects that could be found inside a forest, a shared reading text to define descriptive vocabulary used in a poem to describe forest life, a worksheet to make lists of synonyms to describe some of the objects that can be found in a forest and a set of cards to match adjectives to nouns.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to use descriptive language to edit and change a poem about a forest location.
This lesson is part of an English scheme of work to get the children to practise composing and presenting poems using descriptive vocabulary to illustrate some of the special places that can be found in the world. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
