Lesson One – Toy Movements

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify, describe and record some of the different ways that a range of toys can be moved about when playing games.
The class can select and group different sets of toys to show how they can be moved by pushing, pulling, winding up or battery power movements and actions.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe some of the different ways of moving a range of toys when playing and a set of cards to label a specific type of toy to show how it could be moved in different ways when playing a game.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore and record some of the different ways that a range of toys can be moved when playing games.
This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to design and make different toys that include a movement mechanism to illustrate things found and used on a farm. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
