Robot Movements

This numeracy scheme of work for the Foundation Stage gets the children to explain and model how to control the direction and position of a robot when moving about the classroom to perform different functions. The class can role-play moving as robot following some sets of movement instructions and commands.

Right or Left
Practise controlling the movements of a robot or vehicle to make some different actions for right or left when exploring a special location

Backwards, Forwards, Sideways
Investigate and illustrate how to follow and give sets of instructions to make different movements in the classroom as a robot moving backwards, forwards and sideways

Front, Behind, Opposite
Explore and record how to move pairs of cubes to match some special vocabulary words describing their position for front, behind and opposite

Food and Drink Colours
Identify and describe some of the different colours that can be used when buying, preparing and making foods for a range of meals

Calendar Days
Identify and record the sequence of the seven days of the week using the correct vocabulary words to describe units of time on a calendar

Fantasy Stories
Identify and describe some of the special characters, locations and events that can occur in narrative stories with fantasy settings

Investigate and practise some of the different artwork techniques that can be used when composing and painting a portrait of a classmate
