Fantasy Stories

This literacy scheme of work for the Foundation Stage gets the children to identify and describe some of the special characters, locations and events that can occur in narrative stories with fantasy settings. The class can compare how fantasy stories are structured differently to some other narrative genres.

Story People
Explore how to role-play and suggest matching dialogue that might be spoken by different characters in a fantasy story about meeting a dragon inside a forest location

Investigate how to identify and describe some of the different story characters that might live in a range of special locations as part of a fictional story with a fantasy setting

Practise using vocabulary words and non-standard measurements to find and compare the length of different things that can found in a garden

Identify and recount events and experiences to describe what happened when on holiday at the seaside using sentences in the past tense

Investigate and model some of the number skills that need to be used when working with money on a shopping trip
