Unit B – Once Upon A Time

This literacy scheme of work for Foundation Stage gets the children to role-play different traditional stories using drama and speaking and listening skills and match initial phonemes in cvc words to letters of the alphabet. The class can make puppets to retell versions of a traditional story to show the sequence of events.

Lesson One : Story Clues
Identify, describe and compare some of the different characters that can feature in a range of traditional stories and explore the spelling of words beginning with the /k/ phoneme

Lesson Two : Story People
Identify, describe and role-play some of the special characters that could feature in different traditional stories to illustrate how and why they are important to the narrative

Lesson Three : Story Scenes
Investigate and role-play some of the different events that can happen in traditional stories and suggest and perform matching character dialogue

Lesson Four : Story Scenes
Explain and model how to choose words to use when completing a selection of simple sentences to describe a range of different objects that are used in traditional stories

Lesson Five : Story Plays
Explain and illustrate how to use a range of puppet characters to sequence and retell some of the narrative events that can happen in different traditional stories
