This curriculum topic scheme of work for the Foundation Stage gets the children to identify and compare different animals that live in the school grounds and make comparisons between animals that live in other habitats. The class can label pictures and make models to record mini-beasts found in special habitats.

Lesson Two : Insects
Explore and record how to compare and describe some of the different types of insects that live in some special habitats found around the school grounds

Lesson Three : Ponds
Investigate and record information about some of the different types of animals that can be found living in a pond habitat in the school grounds

Lesson Four : Trees and Bushes
Explain and model how to locate and identify some different types of animals that live in a special habitat found around the school grounds

Lesson Five : Under Stones and Logs
Identify, describe and count some of the different types of creatures that live in a special habitat that can be found around the school grounds

Lesson Six : Mini-beast Encyclopaedia
Practise selecting and recording information about some of the animals that can be found living in some different places around the school grounds

Practise using vocabulary words and non-standard measurements to find and compare the length of different things that can found in a garden
