Butterflies

This curriculum topic scheme of work for the Foundation Stage gets the children to investigate, describe and compare some of the different butterflies that can be found living in the school grounds. The class can select vocabulary words to describe the shapes, sizes and colours seen on each of the butterflies.

Investigate how to produce a model of a mini-beast to explore some of the different creatures that can be found living in special areas in the school grounds

Lesson Three : Butterfly Life Cycle
Explore and illustrate the sequence of steps to show how caterpillars can change into butterflies using the process of metamorphosis

Lesson Four : Butterfly Symmetry
Explore how to create and record examples of some of the special shapes, patterns and colours that might be seen on a pair of butterfly wings
