Lesson Five – Ship’s Horn

This music teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to explore and record some of the different ways that can be used to play musical instruments to alter the pitch of a sound representing a ship’s horn.
The class can practise playing sounds on percussion instruments using Morse code to represent each of the letters of the alphabet with high and low pitched sounds.

Activities in this teaching pack include a worksheet to practise playing different sequences of sounds representing letters of the alphabet using high and low pitches and a set of cards to select and devise different sounds to represent a ship’s horn for high and low pitched sounds.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore and record different ways of playing musical instruments to alter the pitch of a sound representing a ship’s horn.
This lesson is part of a music scheme of work to get the children to select, compose and play some of the different sounds using high and low pitches that can be made by ships and boats when at sea and in harbours. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
