School Journeys

This geography scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to identify and describe different journeys that can be made around the school’s location, in the local neighbourhood and across the wider community. The class can conduct surveys and write recounts to explore the functions of different journeys.

Lesson One : School Survey

Conduct a survey to investigate, describe and record some of the different ways that pupils in the school can travel to school each day

Lesson Two : Road Signs

Identify, describe and compare the meaning of some of the different road signs for people to observe and follow that can be found in the local area

Lesson Three : Safety Signs

Investigate how to select and design some different road signs to display in places near the school to promote safety for pedestrians and vehicles

Lesson Four : Road Survey

Explore how to collect, present and interpret data about the traffic and vehicles that can be seen on a road near to the school’s location

Investigate how to identify and describe some of the special journeys and forms of transport that can be used for school trips to a range of different locations

Lesson Six : Family Journeys

Identify and record forms of transport and destinations for journeys that families can make to different locations when going on a special trip somewhere
