Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to suggest how to retell the traditional tale of the Princess and the Pea by adapting the narrative and a template to plan a retelling of a traditional story by selecting alternative characters, settings and events.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to retell a traditional story by selecting alternative characters, settings and events to show the development and conclusion of the narrative.
This lesson is part of an English scheme of work to get the children to practise writing and editing an alternative version of a traditional story by swapping characters, settings and plot events, identify and spell families of words with prefixes and suffixes and punctuate direct speech in dialogue. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
