Unit E – School Reports

This English scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to research and write a news report using journalistic writing about a mysterious school event, learn rules for adding suffixes beginning with vowel letters to words ending in fer and use more complex punctuation marks to write sentences.

Lesson One : Word Sums
Practise using different suffixes to change the spelling and meaning of a range of words ending in fer to use when composing sentences for news reports

Lesson Two : Colon Lists
Explain and model how to use colons to introduce lists in sentences containing facts about some of the different mysteries that might have happened in the local area

Lesson Three : Report Research
Collect and record information and facts to use in a news report describing a mysterious event that could have happened in the school

Lesson Four : News Report Draft
Practise composing the written draft for a news report describing a mysterious event that could have happened in the school

Lesson Five : Report Publishing
Edit and redraft a model news report to include in a school newspaper publication about a mysterious event that could have happened in the school
