Lesson Four – Number Steps

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify and record how the place value of the numerical digits in sequences of numbers can change when counting forward in steps of ten.

The class can complete and generate different number sequences to illustrate changes that can happen to the place value of digits that can result when counting in tens.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to identify and record how the place value of the numerical digits in sequences of numbers can change when counting forward in steps of ten

Activities in this teaching pack include a set of cards for support ability levels to select and build different number sequences when counting in steps of ten and worksheets for core and extension ability levels to model how to complete a range of different number sequences when counting forwards in tens.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how the place value of the numerical digits in numbers can change when counting in steps of ten going forward.

This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to select and record sets of numbers to one hundred when counting in different steps and illustrating numbers with greater than and less than number values. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
