Unit I – Rhyming Poems

This English scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to explore the vocabulary and structure of a range of narrative and traditional poems, identify and spell words with the vowel digraphs ee and oo and match sets of rhyming words. The class can practise performing poems using voice expressions and actions.

Lesson Two : Word Rhymes Sentences
Match and use words with the vowel digraphs ee and oo to complete a range of different sentences about nursery rhymes

Lesson Three : London Bridge Actions
Select and perform actions to accompany lines from a traditional nursery poem to illustrate characters, places and events

Lesson Four : Rhyming Changes
Identify and change some of the matching words that rhyme in a traditional nursery rhyme poem

Lesson Five : Poetry Performance
Select and perform different nursery rhymes to an audience with the correct volumes, tones and matching actions

Identify, match and record the initial sounds that have been used in a range of cvc words beginning with different letters

Family Toys
Investigate and record how a selection of different toys and games that were owned by families have changed and developed over time

Subtraction Digits
Model and illustrate how to subtract pairs of single digit numbers within ten using concrete equipment and diagrams to support the subtraction calculations
