Lesson One – Italian Delicatessen

This design technology teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to taste, describe and compare some typical examples of different foods that can be used when preparing and cooking Italian meals and recipes.

The class can select and list vocabulary words that can be used to describe the identified foods and suggest how they can be used to prepare and make different meals.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe some typical examples of different Italian foods, a template to select and record comments and observations about the taste, texture and smell of different foods and a vocabulary word bank to help describe and record information about a selection of Italian foods.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to describe and compare some typical examples of different Italian foods.

This lesson is part of a design technology scheme of work to get the children to design and prepare a recipe for a pasta salad for an airline meal using different foods that are grown and produced in Italy. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
