Wooden Hearts

This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to collect and combine a range of natural materials to make symbols of heart shapes when creating decorations to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe some of the materials that have been used for heart shapes and templates to produce heart shapes by selecting and combining different materials and write a tag to label the heart shapes to present to someone special for Valentine’s Day.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to collect and combine a range of natural materials to make symbols of heart shapes.
This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to investigate and model how to shape, colour and combine a range of different materials to produce shapes representing themes related to Valentine’s Day. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
