Valentine Hearts

This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to design and produce Valentine’s Day card designs using layers and combinations of different shapes and materials.
The class can explain and model some of the special techniques that can be used when shaping and combining materials to produce heart shapes to use on a card for Valentine’s Day.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe materials used to make different hearts, a shared reading text to follow a set of instructions about how to produce layered heart shapes for a card decoration and templates to select and decorate shapes for a Valentine’s Day card.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to produce Valentine’s Day card designs using layers and combinations of different shapes.
This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to investigate and practise different techniques to shape and combine materials when producing models to make gifts to give to someone special for Valentine’s Day. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
