Lesson Six – Human Evolution

This science teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to identify and explain some of the special ways that human beings have developed and evolved over millions of years in time.

The class can select and suggest how humans might adapt and change to a problem or scenario that could be faced in the future such as exploring the effects of global warming or a worldwide famine on populations.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to understand how living things have evolved and changed over millions of years, a shared reading text to explain the work of Darwin and his theory of evolution by natural selection and a set of cards to identify and suggest how humans could evolve and change in the future in response to different scenarios.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore and and explain how human beings have developed and evolved over millions of years in time.

This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to explore how living things adapt and evolve over time as a result of competition for natural resources and transfer inherited traits to their offspring. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
