Lesson Two – Dental Hygiene

This science teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to practise composing and presenting a set of instructions that can be used to promote good dental hygiene for someone to follow to care for and protect the teeth.
The class can design and present posters to show rules someone should follow to look after their teeth such as brushing techniques and eating the right kinds of food.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe different ways of protecting and caring for the teeth and a set of cards to identify and sort between some of the good and bad ways to protect the teeth by following a set of instructions.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to compose a set of instructions to promote good dental hygiene that someone can follow to care for and protect the teeth.
This lesson is part of a science scheme of work to get the children to name, locate and explain the function of some of the different types of teeth that are used in the initial digestion of food inside the human mouth. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
