Lesson Three – Fraction Lines

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to investigate how to identify and record different sets of equivalent fractions by using a number line to plot and order some matching pictorial diagrams.
The class can practise using pictorial diagrams to illustrate how non-unit fractions are equivalent to other fractions including linking the values of numerators and denominators.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to investigate how to identify and record different sets of equivalent fractions by using a number line to plot and order some matching pictorial diagrams
Activities in this teaching pack include differentiated sets of cards for support, core and extension ability levels to record sets of fractions that are equivalent to other fractions by using a number line and pictorial diagrams to show the matching values and order of each pair of fractions.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and record sets of matching equivalent fractions by using a number line and pictorial diagrams.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to investigate, compare and record the values of different non-unit fractions using equivalence between their sets of matching numerators and denominators. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
