Unit I – Shape Areas
This maths scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to develop and refine skills in measuring and calculating the areas and perimeters of geometric shapes including rectilinear and compound shapes. The class can identify how to use formulas to make it quicker and easier to calculate area.
Develop and refine skills in measuring and calculating the areas and perimeters of different geometric shapes including rectilinear and compound shapes
Lesson One : Matching Areas
Identify and record a selection of rectilinear shapes that have the same area when measured correctly in square centimetres
Lesson Two : Compound Shapes
Identify and record how to use the correct formulae to measure and calculate the correct areas of a range of different rectilinear shapes
Lesson Three : Shape Perimeters
Investigate and record a selection of rectilinear shapes that have the same matching perimeters but different areas using addition and multiplication calculation skills
Lesson Four : Triangle Squares
Explain and record how to measure the area of a right angled triangle by counting matching numbers of full and half squares as part of each shape’s area
-
Number Squares
Develop and refine calculation skills for all four number operations working with different groups and pairs of numbers
-
One Hundred Number Squares
Develop and refine calculation skills for all four number operations working with different groups and pairs of numbers to one hundred
-
Fifty Number Squares
Develop and refine calculation skills for all four number operations working with different groups and pairs of numbers to fifty
-
Twenty Number Squares
Develop and refine calculation skills for all four number operations working with different groups and pairs of numbers to twenty
