Lesson Three – Digit Puzzles

Activities in this teaching pack include a differentiated set of worksheets to record how to complete standard written methods of calculation for addition by adding the missing digits for sums with five digit numbers for core and extension ability levels and three digit numbers for support ability levels.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore the digits that can be added to complete written columnar addition of pairs of five digit numbers.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to practise using standard written methods of addition calculation to solve a range of abstract and contextual problems working with sets of four and five digit numbers.
