Roman Numeral Comparisons

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to build sets of different number equations to compare pairs of Roman Numerals to five hundred using the symbols for greater than and less than.

The class can convert each Roman Numeral value to its equivalent number to use when creating each of the equations to compare the sets of values.

Activities in this teaching pack include sets of differentiated cards to select and compare pairs of Roman Numerals to thirty for support levels, one hundred for core levels and five hundred for extension levels. The selected Roman Numerals can be converted into their matching numbers before being compared using the symbols for less than and greater than.

The interactive presentation gets the children to identify how to convert different pairs of Roman Numerals into their matching numbers so that they can be compared in matching number equations.

This lesson can support development in learning the values of Roman Numerals and how to compare numbers using the symbols for less than and greater than. There are differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and an interactive presentation to introduce concepts and key skills.
