Lesson One – Bronze to Iron

This history teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to investigate, describe and record some of the changes that happened to Britain as the result of the discovery of iron in the past.

The class can compose and present a news report to illustrate how iron was mined and used in prehistoric Britain for a range of different functions such as making tools, weapons and parts of building.

Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to identify and explain how the discovery of iron changed life in Britain in the past and a template to write a news report about the impact on Britain of the discovery of iron to suggest how it might have been used for a range of different functions.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore and record some of the changes that happened to Britain as the result of the discovery of iron in the past.

This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to investigate how Britain developed and changed during the Iron Age by exploring how historians find out about the past using primary sources including archaeology.
