Unit C – Story Writing

This English scheme of work for Key Stage Two gets the children to plan and write a story using familiar settings based on a book by a significant author, practise building words using roots and the prefixes il and ir and use nouns in sentences with matching determinants based on The Angel of Nitshill Road, Anne Fine.

Lesson One : Determinant Matching
Identify and record the correct determinant to use before different nouns beginning with either vowels or consonants in sentences related to a narrative story about schools

Lesson Two : Word Building
Practise using the prefixes ir and il to build a range of different words that could be used when writing a story about something that might happen in a school

Lesson Three : Story Map
Plan the sequence of events for a narrative story to suggest and illustrate some of the different events that might happen when a new character joins a school

Lesson Four : Story Drafting
compose and record the first draft for a narrative story describing a problem that a new character might cause when joining a school based on story by a significant author

Lesson Five : Story Publishing
Identify and record how to edit and make corrections to a narrative story set in a school to use when publishing a class library book
