Lesson Three – Mixing Shapes

This computing teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to investigate and illustrate some of the different ways of layering and ordering shapes in a graphic design that can be used to represent an aspect of Viking life in the past.
The class can copy and record some example graphics by combining pairs of shapes to make some new designs for a Viking Longship sail.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to explain how to combine a range of different shapes to make new graphic designs to represent Viking life and a worksheet to practise combining pairs of shapes to build new graphic designs to match a specific topic.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore some of the different ways of layering and ordering shapes in a graphic design representing a Viking longship sail.
This lesson is part of a computing scheme of work to get the children to select, combine and adjust different graphic shapes to create the design that could be used on a replica Viking longship sail. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
