Lesson Three – Traffic Lights

This computing teaching pack for Key Stage Two gets the children to practise writing and testing a set of procedure commands to run an application that can used to control the movement of traffic with a sequence of lights.

The class can identify and record the sequence of lights required for the correct operation of a pedestrian crossing so that the traffic flow can be managed.

Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to practise writing and testing a set of procedure commands to run an application that can used to control the movement of traffic with a sequence of lights

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe the sequence of traffic lights used to control road vehicles at a pedestrian crossing and a worksheet to select and record the sequence of outputs needed for a set of traffic lights used to control road vehicles at a pedestrian crossing.

The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to write and test a procedure to run an application using lights to control traffic.

This lesson is part of a computing scheme of work to get the children to practise selecting and entering commands to control different procedures and outcomes to match specific functions when using light. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
