Lesson Three – Counting Back
This maths teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to practise using number lines to model and illustrate how to count back in single digits from numbers to ten.
The class can identify and explain how to use pictorial diagrams when solving different subtraction calculations working with pairs of single digit numbers with sums to ten.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to teach the children to practise using number lines to model and illustrate how to count back in single digits from numbers to ten
Activities in this teaching pack include a number line template to support subtraction of single digit numbers by modelling counting back and a worksheet to record sets of numbers that can be used to complete different subtraction calculations.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and explain how to use the technique of counting back when solving subtraction number problems within ten.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to identify and practise different techniques to calculate the difference between pairs of single digit numbers within ten using concrete equipment and diagrams to model and support calculations. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
