Capacity Measurements

This maths scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to explain and model how to measure, calculate and record the capacities of different containers and vessels working with non-standard and standard units. The class can describe how to use number skills to find each of the identified capacities.

Filling Cups

Explore how to identify and record how many cups can be filled using matching capacities in standard and non-standard units of measurement

Bottles and Cups

Investigate how to calculate and record the capacity of some different sized bottles using non-standard measurements to match vocabulary words

Capacity Doubles

Practise doubling a range of measurements recorded in millilitres using numbers to ten, twenty and thirty to find the capacity of some different sized bottles

  • Fraction Shapes

    Fraction Shapes

Explain and model how to divide a selection of geometric shapes to match different unit and non-unit common fractions

  • Farm Labels

    Farm Labels

Practise and develop a range of word processing skills to utilise when labelling and organising different objects related to farms and farming

  • Family News Events

    Family News Events

Investigate and model how to compose news reports to describe some of the special events that can be experienced by a family

  • Sports Diary

    Sports Diary

Select matching vocabulary words and sentence structures to use when composing diary entries describing how to participate in different sport competitions at the Olympic games
