Shape Patterns

This maths scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to identify, describe and classify sets of 2D shapes by their matching properties when used in examples of repeating patterns. The class can produce models to show tessellating patterns that can be seen in different places.

Roof Tiles

Identify and describe the properties of some of the different shapes that might be visible on the roof of a building that have been arranged into a repeating pattern

Shape Changes

Investigate and record some of the different ways that can be used to change the size, appearance and orientation of different shapes in repeating patterns

City Pavements

Explore and record how to select and compare some different shapes that have been used in tessellating patterns found on a range of pavements around a city location

  • Shape Matching

    Shape Matching

Identify, describe and compare different 2D shapes by their matching individual properties including the number of sides, vertices and lines of symmetry

  • Buses, Trains, Planes

    Buses, Trains, Planes

Select patterned language to use when writing poems describing ways of travelling when making different journeys

  • Toy Masses

    Toy Masses

Explain and model how to measure, record and compare the mass of some different toys and games using scales, bucket balances and symbols for greater than and less than

  • Seaside Holidays

    Seaside Holidays

Describe and compare how families enjoyed seaside holidays together in the past with similar events and experiences enjoyed by families today
