Shape Changes

This maths teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate and record some of the different ways that can be used to change the size, appearance and orientation of different shapes in repeating patterns.
The class can practise producing models of different shapes from a range of materials and illustrate how they can be changed in different ways such as enlarged or rotated.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to investigate and record some of the different ways that can be used to change the size, appearance and orientation of different shapes in repeating patterns
Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe how different 2D shapes have been changed and differentiated worksheets to select and record special ways of changing and adjusting a range of shapes to make some repeating patterns.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore and record ways to change the size, appearance and orientation of different shapes.
This lesson is part of a maths scheme of work to get the children to identify, describe and classify sets of 2D shapes by their matching properties when used in examples of repeating patterns. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
