Lesson Two – Using Braille

This history teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate and record some of reasons for the development of the Braille system in the past that is used by blind people to communicate information.

The class can practise making examples of different letters of the alphabet in Braille which someone who is blind could use for reading to access texts.

Activities in this teaching pack include a shared reading text to identify and describe how the Braille system was developed in the past by Louis Braille and a set of cards to practise making examples of Braille for different letters of the alphabet to use for communication and accessing reading texts.

The interactive presentation can be used to explore and record some of reasons for the development of the Braille system in the past that is used by blind people to help them access information and communicate.

This lesson is part of a history scheme of work to get the children to explore and record information about the life and work of Louis Braille who had a significant impact on the development of communication in the world.
