Lesson Two – Antarctic Expedition

This history teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate how to identify and record some of the special preparations that were made for a voyage to the Antarctic by Ernest Shackleton in the past.

The class can suggest and explain how some of the things were used for different functions by Shackleton when exploring the Antarctic such as sledges used to pull equipment.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify some of the reasons why Shackleton explored the Antarctic in the past, sets of cards to record some of the different items that might be needed for an expedition to the Antarctic and for specific purposes and a template to select and record information about one of the items that might be needed when exploring a location.
