Unit C – Animal Research

This English teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to practise ways of finding information about animals in non-fiction information books, investigate words spelt with the or sound and use commas to write lists about groups of animals. Lesson One : Word Match
Identify and spell a selection of words with the /ɔ:/ sound spelt a before l and ll that can used as book titles about a range of different mini-beasts

Lesson Two : Animal Questions
Investigate how to compile and record lists of questions that can be used when investigating different types of animals using non-fiction information texts

Lesson Three : Animal Lists
Practise using commas to separate items in example sentences when writing lists about some different types of animals that might visit a family garden or the school grounds

Lesson Four : Animal Keywords
Identify and record different pages that can be read in a non-fiction book that can provide facts and information about a range of keywords related to animals

Lesson Five : Animal Index
Select and record some important keywords that can be used in an index for a non-fiction information book about a specific type of mini-beast
