Unit H – Transport

This English scheme of work for Key Stage One gets the children to research and present information about forms of transport that can be used for family journeys, add the homophones there, they’re and their to complete sentences about buses and trains and use the conjunctions and and or to link sentence clauses.

Research and present information about some forms of transport that can be used for different family journeys to visit special locations

Lesson One : There and Their
Practise selecting and recording the correct homophones that can be used to complete a range of example sentences about journeys on different forms of transport

Lesson Two : Journey Lists
Practise using commas between items in matching lists of some of the special things that might be needed to complete different family journeys

Lesson Three : Train Travel
Investigate and record how to use the conjunctions and and or to link pairs of sentence clauses about some of the different journeys that can be made by train

Lesson Four : Transport Lists
Investigate how to collect and record vocabulary lists that can be used to describe what happens when making a journey by a specific form of transport

Lesson Five : Travel Posters
Practise designing and presenting posters to explain how and why families make journeys using specific forms of transport to visit special locations

Labelling Bicycles
Develop and refine word processing skills when labelling and organising different parts and equipment that can be used when riding a bicycle

Garden Sculpture
Select and use different materials to mould and shape sculptures representing a range of artefacts that might be used in a family garden location

Select and write sets of instructions that a witch can follow when making a range of potions for casting different spells

Investigate the sequence of events in stories from the Bible told by Jesus and reflect on lessons that the narratives can teach people about their lives
