Lesson Three – Weather Groups

This computing teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to practise sorting some dates that occur during the year into matching groups working with different criteria about what is happening in the weather.
The class can identify why someone might need to use a computer to store and organise information on a particular topic such as keeping a record of weather changes.
Download this teaching pack including a lesson plan, classroom activities and an interactive presentation to practise sorting some dates that occur during the year into matching groups working with different criteria about what is happening in the weather
Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify different questions that a set of data could answer about the weather, a template to record the weather for different dates which can then be sorted and grouped according to specific criteria and a table display card to sort and group weather database record cards according to matching criteria.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to sort dates during the year into matching groups using different criteria about the weather.
This lesson is part of a computing scheme of work to get the children to explore and record how to use computer databases to store, organise and interrogate data and information about what is happening in the weather. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
