Lesson Three – Sand Impressions
This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to investigate how to select and imprint special shapes into sand using a range of different tools to reflect ideas and themes about the seaside.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe some of the different shapes and patterns that can be seen in seaside objects and a set of cards to select shapes to use in artwork when making impressions in sand to reflect ideas and themes about the seaside.
The interactive presentation can be used to explore how to imprint shapes into sand using a range of different tools to reflect ideas about the seaside.
This lesson is part of an art and design scheme of work to get the children to select and use a range of different natural materials found on a beach to produce some model sculptures on the theme of the seaside. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
