Lesson One – Weather Scenes
This art and design teaching pack for Key Stage One gets the children to identify and describe how different types of weather can be represented in painting compositions by significant artists.
The class can select and record a sketch of a section of a painting to indicate the colours used to illustrate a type of weather such as a snowy day or a rainbow.

Activities in this teaching pack include display posters to identify and describe colours used to depict different types of weather in paintings, a vocabulary word bank to name some of the colours used to depict different types of weather in paintings and a template to identify and record colours that can be seen in a section of a painting of a weather scene.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how how different types of weather can be represented in paintings by significant artists.
This lesson is part of a art and design scheme of work to get the children to practise different techniques of painting scenes depicting a specific type of rain to simulate natural phenomena in a range of different landscapes. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
