Class Portraits

This curriculum topic scheme of work for the Foundation Stage gets the children to investigate and practise some of the different artwork techniques that can be used when composing and painting a portrait of a classmate. The class can identify the name, location and function of the common parts of the human body.

Lesson One : Face Parts
Practise naming and locating each of the the different parts that can be found on a human face and describe their matching functions

Lesson Two : Body Parts
Explore how to identify and describe the name, location and function of some of the common parts that can be found on the human body

Lesson Three : Hairstyles
Investigate how to describe and design the range of different hairstyles that can be found on the human body using a selection of special materials

Lesson Four : Self-portrait
Explore and record how to name and locate each of the different parts of the face by sketching and drawing a matching self-portrait

Lesson Five : Classmates
Practise producing and presenting a portrait of a classmate to learn the names and locations of each of the different parts of the face

Identify the location and function of different objects used in the classroom and explore how to formulate rules to manage the classroom safely

Identify, describe and compare the sequences of geometric shapes that have been used to create a range of different patterns

Read and produce labels to identify and describe items that can be sold in different shops and match initial sounds of words to the correct letters of the alphabet

Investigate and illustrate some of the special ways that members of a family can use to support each other in different events and experiences
