Lesson Four – Money Pennies

This numeracy teaching pack for the Foundation Stage gets the children to practise using counting on to add different money amounts using pairs of single digit numbers to calculate the cost of buying different items from a shop.
The class can select and count the matching numbers of pennies to calculate and record the sums for different pairs of numbers to ten.

Activities in this teaching pack include a set of cards to select and record addition number calculations with matching sums to ten using concrete equipment to support each addition calculation and a worksheet to play a game to practise adding and recording two more to different numbers to ten.
The interactive presentation gets the children to explore how to use counting on to add different money amounts using pairs of single digit numbers.
This lesson is part of a numeracy scheme of work to get the children to practise adding pairs of one digit numbers by using counting on from the biggest number working with concrete equipment and diagrams to support calculations. There are teaching activities for shared learning, differentiated worksheets to support independent learning and interactive presentations to introduce concepts and key skills.
